edit:

off we go :) See you after May 9th :blowkiss:!

--------------------------------------------

Time to change my journal... How are you, DeviantArt?:)
Me - I'm STILL trying to cope with many issues, the biggest of them STILL being my laziness ._.

Any more news? At the end of April me and my friend are going on a trip to Greece. Can't wait!
Anyone from Greece or near - how's the weather?
I have enough of being transparent - besides all wonderful things Greece has in offer, I want to get at least a little bit of suntan, goddamnit! XD

BTW. I can see there's a lot of fuss about Orphan Works bill... I have to say, that when I was reading many of those mostly aggresive journals, posts, articles and comments I got nervous for a bit, but then I've decided to be reasonable and wait a bit to see what's going to happen.

There always have been many controversial, funny or ridiculous ideas for bills in practically every country - they've also bringed a hell lot of unverified rumours (aka. bullsh*t), especially around the Net.

Not so long ago in our country we went through a bit of a drama, when some reliable sources brigned to light, that our clever governmental minds had plans to classify ALL websites as... press.
Can you imagine a situation, when you'd have to run to your local department to register your personal blog or fansite as monthly magazine or daily newspaper - just how ludicrous is that? :D

Well, the weather here is mostly sunny. We get the occasional cloud, and maybe rain, but nothing much. The temperature is around 25-30 C now, but starting tomorrow it will drop 4-5 degrees. I'm guessing that by the end of April, it should be around 30 though.

I'm not sure that you'll be able to get a tan at this time of the year (it's rather early).

Where in Greece will you be going? Have you made arrangements for accommodation? If not, I might be able to set something up for you (after all, I live in Greece). If you're going to be in Athens, I would be great to meet you in person :)

Maybe, I could email you for extra info?

Oh, and one last thing: Greek orthodox Easter is on the 27th of April. I can tell you, it's quite something to attend the mass (and join the feast on the next say).

25-30? I was making some research and average temperature for Greece in May was estimated at 18-24 C - if it's going to be 25-30 (which is about 10-15 more than here in April) then I am going to fry :D

As for tan - considering that minimum exposure to sun and 'whitening' medicine taken some time ago made my skin extremely pale (to the point it makes goths green with envy), I think it would be quite difficult not to catch at least some color :)

We are going on a package tour, so we have places to stay - but your willingness to help is hugely appreciated
I am not a globetrotter (yet?), but usually I start to know some places on package holidays, to see if the place it's worthy of coming back - since I'm positive that we'll be having a lovely time, I plan to drag my family to Greece in a future and perhaps then I may need some help :)

Now where we''ll be going... as far as tour-plan I have is accurate, we will be visiting quite a few places - like Meteora, Mt. Olympus, Skiathos, Epidaurus, Mycenae, etc. - before arriving to Athens at 5-th of May and doing massive amount of sightseeing. According to plan 6th of May is free, but I'm not exactly sure where we'll land - probably somewhere further away from Athens :(...

I'm not sure if meeting at this point would be possible, but I'll gladly meet you, no matter if at this trip or another :*

Well, last year we had a heatwave in early May, and the year before we had heavy rainfall. It's really hard to tell. My estimate for 25-30 is just that - an estimate. For all I know, it may be 15-20. It's difficult to pack for Greece at this time of the year. Since you're going up north, I suggest bringing a sweater just in case, but yeah, planning for 18-24 is a good choice. At night, though, temperatures can drop below 10 (up north) and it's generally humid.

Meteora are nice (in greek the word is in plural, and it means "suspended" - you'll see why once you get there). Mt Olympus should be all green at this time of the year. Epidaurus was heavily hit by the wildfires last summer (but not as heavily as Olympia). Mycenae are (again, plural) located in an arid area (bring water). As for Skiathos I know there are some good beaches there - hopefully the water won't be that cold, but you'll definitely get to go sunbathing.

Greek easter is on the 27th, as I mentioned before. If you're in or near a city, it's worth attending the late night mass on Saturday. People are outdoors, in front of the church, with lit candles in their hands, waiting for the priest to announce the Resurrection. When he does (at, or near midnight), the bells go off, and there's generally quite a raucousness. Youngsters tend to light up firecrackers by the dozen, some of which make quite a bang (and I DO mean QUITE a BANG!!!). Generally, it is safer to be with crowds (as they usually don't send them exploding where people are).

On the 27th (Sunday) there's festivities all over the place with people roasting lambs on skewers (not the most agreeable sight if you're not used to it) and painting eggs red.

My job is in the center of Athens - I usually call it a day around 19:00. If you're up to it (and not totally beat from the all-day sightseeing) we could come and meet up with you for a coffee or beer (whichever) somewhere near your hotel (probably somewhere in the center of Athens).

Yiannis
